π
"π" (pi) is the representation of a piece that could hypothetically be created by artificial intelligence in the future.
First performed in june 2021, after 2 weeks of residency, in the framework of the "Cartes Blanches" at "Ballet Junior de Genève" .
General aspect of pi
Pi, as an irrational infinite number, embodies the immensity and chaos, while being associated with the circle through its constant relationship to the circumference.
The dancers, programmed according to the digits of Pi, move in interlocking circles, symbolizing the repetition and influence of different systems in our lives.
Body materials
Each performer symbolizes a cycle: the cycle of life, the natural cycle of water and the cycle of hate in order to construct the choreographic material. Connected by the scientific concept of p in the circle, to represent these universal principals in life.
A robotic voice guides the dancers, highlighting the dehumanization of an AI dancer, the contrast between a human and a machine.
Costumes
The costumes are simple and identical. They reinforce the idea of anonymity and the endless and simple reproduction of a random dancer X.
"We are merely interchangeable materials at the whim of the choreographer" as it's represented by the robotic voice.
Chaos and cycle
The physical and the symbolic entropy are explored, illustrating an increase of the disorder despite the established rules that are set.
The piece closes as it begins, suggesting a perpetual cycle of different dance performances.
